Benefits of Coffee: It is an Antioxidant blast. We typically associate antioxidants with power foods like blueberries and pomegranate, but it turns out that a cup of joe packs a powerful antioxidant punch that’s amazing for overall skin health. It actually has more antioxidants than a cup of green tea. Antioxidants fight premature aging of the skin due to heat, light, pollution, and damaging free radicals. Coffee’s antioxidant power—flavonoids—are released when brewed! It
De-Puffs...When applied topically the caffeine in coffee helps reduce puffiness by restricting blood flow to the area and reducing swelling. It's a very common ingredient in depuffing creams, but know that the results from this is temporary—just enough to get you through until you're actually awake!
Coffee is Smoothing. Many natural exfoliants (think sugar or sand) will slough and smooth skin but aren’t exactly gentle. Softer coffee grounds naturally exfoliate dead skin and will leave it silky smooth sans irritation. Coffee is Tightening because coffee is a diuretic, creams and serums containing coffee can temporarily minimize the visibility of cellulite by drawing fluid away from fat cells, essentially dehydrating the fat cells. This shrinks their size, resulting in a tightening effect from the outside. (Note that this is temporary) Coffee is Calming. Yep that's right, can you believe it? Though it seems counterintuitive given its stimulant nature, coffee can actually calm inflamed and red skin thanks to the same antioxidants that protect it from premature aging. It's also a vasoconstrictor, which means it reduces redness.
Lastly, coffee is Brightening. You know how coffee wakes you up in the morning? It does the same thing for your skin. When applied, the stimulating properties of coffee improve blood flow, making your skin appear radiant, bright, and, well, alive. Do you need a coffee break after reading all that?!
Benefits of Shea Butter: Shea butter is a skin superfood that comes from the seeds of the fruit of the Shea (Karite) tree. It may offer mild UV protection (up to SPF ~6, bye dark spots) and provides the skin with essential fatty acids and the nutrients necessary for collagen production. Shea butter has been used in Africa and many other locations for years to improve skin and hair. It also has a long history of medicinal use, such as in wound care and even treating leprosy. Shea Butter is moisturizing, skin smoothing and reduces inflammation.
